Why is certification important?

According to polls, 84 percent of respondents who have worked with a coach believe that coaching certification or credentials are necessary. If this statistic holds true in the broader population, delaying certification could mean excluding a vast majority of possible clients for future coaching opportunities. Showing that a coach has completed the appropriate training and is, in fact, certified to assist in their chosen niche market holds a significant amount of future earning potential. Furthermore, it has been discovered that coaching interactions are more gratifying when the coach has the right certification credentials for their chosen market.

Because this is a professional choice, demonstrating that a coach has completed the essential training and is certified to assist in their chosen field offers the most potential for future revenue. Furthermore, it has been discovered that clients have more confidence in coaching interactions and find them more gratifying when the coach holds the correct credentials.

The CCA advises clients looking for a coach should only look at applicants who have certification to verify that they fulfil the right requirements, have good ethics, and are up to speed with their methods. Although coaching without certification is possible, it is likely to be restrictive and even frustrating, especially when first starting out.

Many organizations offer coaching courses, but when you learn from an accredited program resulting in certification, you receive a lot more. Life coaching is a fast-growing field but isn't regulated by any state or federal agency. There is no licensing requirement. Anyone who wants to call him/herself a life coach can pursue the profession. Certification, however, lets others know you have specific training and are serious about the career.
