Are Excuses Keeping You Stuck?

Excuses keep us small, prevent us from growing, expanding and being open to new opportunities so why do we keep using them?

  1. It is easier to keep doing what you have always done because change requires effort. Your brain is hard-wired to take the path of least resistance and if repeating the same old excuse keeps it simple, your brain will choose it by default.

  2. Old belief patterns operate continually in the background and can sabotage your movement forward without you realizing it. Any negative feeling or reaction can indicate that an old pattern is active and keeping you stuck.

  3. Excuses are rooted in the past, and the past is predicting your future. If you had difficulty with something in the past chances are you are making the assumption it will be difficult again.

  4. Movement forward requires a happy, positive, enthusiastic approach. If you are depressed or feeling down, excuses may have become your energetic match.

  5. You don’t want to change. Excuses keep you from having to do things differently, and you find comfort or security in familiarity.

Want to try something new and break free from excuses?

  1. Break your routine. Shake it up, get outside, do something active, get uncomfortable and try something new. Breaking your pattern will help create an energetic change within you and support movement forward.

  2. Get in touch with who you really are. To do this, you need to get still, present and in the moment. Mediation is a great way to center yourself and recharge.

  3. Finding the good. Brainstorm the reasons why doing something would be beneficial.

  4. Check in with how you are feeling, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. If you can support yourself positively in all these areas, it creates a strong jumping off point to move towards your goals. For example, if you physically don’t feel well, what can you do to feel better? Exercise, get outside, eat better or get more sleep?

  5. Walk through fear. Sometimes you just got to do it. The worst possible thing that can happen is usually nothing compared to the thoughts you have about it. One step at a time is all it takes.

  6. Record your vocabulary. What words and phrases do you use on a regular basis? Are they supportive of your movement forward? If not, practice replacing them with powerful, life empowering words.

  7. Hire a Life Coach, find a friend or family member that will help you be accountable and encourage you to try new things. Let them know you are practicing steps 1-6 and that you may need their help not to fall back into old habits.

You are an incredibly powerful human being, and the world is waiting for you to be all that you can be. Isn’t it time you stepped into being your greatest self.
